Art Classes: Exploring the urban landscape at Nenagh Arts Centre

Tutor Ger Whelan presents a series of workshops based on drawing and painting the town environment at Nenagh Arts Centre starting on the 12th of February. These sessions are designed for people who are interested in exploring how to sketch, draw and develop ideas as a professional artist might.

This is an eight week programme that aims to facilitate this idea. The individual sessions will focus on sketching and drawing examples of the local urban landscape.

Participants will initially work from enlarged A3 sized photo, from the comfort of Nenagh Arts Centre and weather permitting, later classes will involve drawing and sketching from real life. Sessions will explore the basics of observing, understanding, sketching and representing the urban landscape from an artistic point of view. The artistic side should evolve naturally as the programme develops. Written and visual aids will be provided with each session, complimented by reference material on YouTube and other media.

Pencils, pens, paper, paints, canvas, should be brought by those taking part and as required. Nenagh Arts Centre will host these workshops, each Thursday morning, from 10.30a.m. to 12.30p.m. starting 5th February. The course lasts 8 weeks, with a maximum of 10 participants. The fee for the eight weeks is €70 per person and places can be booked from the Centre on 067 34400.
